History of Block Panchayat

The Konni region has a centuries-old historical heritage. Once part of the Kingdom of Travancore, this area was well known for its rich forest resources and agricultural culture. Surrounded by the forest regions of the Western Ghats, Konni was a hub of natural resources and biodiversity. The Konni Elephant Camp, forests, rivers, and agricultural fields are the main features of Konni. A lifestyle closely connected with nature and a rich socio-cultural heritage make Konni one of the notable regions in Kerala. With the implementation of the Kerala Panchayat Raj Act in 1994, local self-government institutions were given more powers and responsibilities. Konni Block Panchayat was formed as a strong administrative system to coordinate the development activities of various Gram Panchayats.
